Flooded Strand

Flooded Strand originated as one of the original cycle of fetch lands in the 2002 Magic: The Gathering expansion Onslaught. The design philosophy behind these cards was to provide players with a reliable way to manipulate their mana bases by searching the deck for specific basic land types. This specific iteration, printed as collector number 464 in the 2024 Modern Horizons 3 set, features the distinctive retro frame treatment designed to evoke the aesthetic of the game's early years, appealing to players with a preference for classic card visuals.

The art for this version was commissioned to maintain a sense of continuity with the game's long-standing visual language while adhering to the high-detail standards of contemporary card sets. Modern Horizons 3 was conceptualized as a love letter to Magic's history, integrating powerful reprints and new designs into the Modern format. The reception of these retro-framed fetch lands has been largely centered on their blend of utility for competitive play and their nostalgic appeal to veteran collectors who favor the traditional look of early-era cards.
