Evelyn, the Covetous // Evelyn, the Covetous

Evelyn, the Covetous was originally released as part of the Streets of New Capenna Art Series in 2022. This subset was designed to highlight the high-fantasy, art-deco aesthetic of the plane of New Capenna, a world defined by 1920s-inspired decadence, organized crime, and supernatural intrigue. These cards were produced as collectible prints rather than functional game pieces, intended to celebrate the work of the illustrators who define the visual identity of the Magic: The Gathering multiverse.

The art for this specific piece was created by artist Yongjae Choi, who focused on capturing Evelyn’s role as a powerful, vampiric mob boss. The design leans into the thematic duality of the character, utilizing sharp, opulent details and a moody, shadowed color palette to reflect the cutthroat nature of the Obscura crime family. Upon release, the series was well-received by fans of the game's lore who sought a deeper, more immersive look at the character designs stripped of traditional frame elements and game mechanics.
