What it does
Remove any number of counters from among permanents on the battlefield. You draw cards and lose life equal to the number of counters removed this way.
Ajani's heart went out to those changed by the aurora's tides. Having selfhood ripped away was still a painfully familiar feeling.

Where it came from
Eventide's Shadow was released as part of the Lorwyn Eclipsed Commander set, a thematic expansion designed to explore the darker, shifting nature of the Lorwyn plane as it transitioned into Shadowmoor. The card reflects the set's core narrative concept, where the idyllic light of the original Lorwyn setting gives way to a melancholy, gothic transformation influenced by the Great Aurora. Designers focused on mechanics that played into the graveyard and transformation themes prevalent in the block, aiming to provide players with a tool that rewarded strategic interaction with the board's twilight state.
The artwork for this piece was crafted to evoke the eerie, dreamlike aesthetic that defined the Eclipsed series. By utilizing a muted color palette and ethereal lighting effects, the illustrator sought to ground the card in the folkloric roots of the setting while highlighting the encroaching darkness. Upon its release, the card was received by the Magic: The Gathering community as a staple of the set's thematic identity, praised for how well its mechanical design mirrored the artistic shift from the vibrant Lorwyn to the gloomier Shadowmoor.
