Where it came from
Exhilarating Elocution was released in 2021 as part of the Strixhaven: School of Mages set for the Magic: The Gathering trading card game. The set is themed around a magical university, with this specific card representing a spell taught at the Silverquill College, which focuses on the magic of words, light, and shadow. It was designed to mechanically represent the college's focus on bolstering allies while debuffing opponents through persuasive or intimidating speech.
The card’s illustration was created by artist Titus Lunter, who utilized the high-contrast aesthetic characteristic of the Silverquill faction. The design emphasizes the power of rhetoric, depicting a mage channeling magical energy into a focused oratorical performance. Upon release, it was recognized by the community as a thematic support piece within the set's limited environment, noted for its flavor integration rather than competitive tournament dominance.
