Expedite

Expedite was released in early 2016 as part of the Oath of the Gatewatch expansion for Magic: The Gathering. As a common red spell, its inclusion served to reinforce the set’s mechanical focus on surge, a keyword ability that rewarded players for casting multiple spells in a single turn. By providing a low-cost method to grant haste to a creature while also replacing itself in the player's hand, it functioned as an efficient utility card designed to maintain momentum in fast-paced gameplay.

The card’s illustration was provided by artist Clint Cearley, who sought to capture the kinetic energy of a creature being rapidly bolstered for battle. Cearley’s design emphasizes a sense of swift motion, aligning with the card's thematic intent to speed up board development. The piece was well-received for its clean, readable visual storytelling, becoming a recognizable staple in red-aligned decks throughout its legal lifespan in the Standard format.
