Where it came from
Fabrication Foundry was released as part of the promotional suite for the 2023 Magic: The Gathering expansion, The Lost Caverns of Ixalan. Designed to integrate into the set's broader mechanical themes of artifact synergy and graveyard recursion, the card represents the industrious, treasure-laden aesthetic of the subterranean realm of Orazca. Its inclusion in the promotional release served to highlight the artifact-centric strategies available to players within the set's distinct tribal and mechanical ecosystem.
The card’s visual design is the work of artist Eli Minaya, who leaned into the intricate, mechanical, and slightly overgrown nature of Ixalan’s hidden civilizations. By blending the organic feel of the cavern environment with the rigid geometry of mechanical components, the illustration communicates the card's function as a hub for resource assembly. Upon its release, it was noted by players for its utility in Commander decks that prioritize artifact manipulation, solidifying its place as a reliable tool for collectors and enthusiasts of the format.
