Where it came from
Favorable Winds was released in 2012 as part of the Avacyn Restored expansion for Magic: The Gathering. The set focused on the gothic horror world of Innistrad, specifically tracking the return of the archangel Avacyn. This card was designed as an uncommon blue enchantment intended to support flying-themed strategies, providing a mechanical buff to creature types that represented the soaring denizens of the plane.
The card features illustration by Igor Kieryluk, who depicted a stylized, ethereal gust of wind swirling around avian figures. The design reflects the visual language of the set, which emphasized themes of hope and divine intervention after long periods of darkness. Upon release, it was well-received by players focusing on limited formats like Draft and Sealed for its ability to provide consistent scaling for aerial forces.
