Where it came from
Favorable Winds was released in 2017 as part of the Ixalan expansion for Magic: The Gathering. Set on a plane inspired by the Age of Discovery, the card reflects the expansion's mechanical focus on tribal synergy, specifically supporting decks built around flying creatures. It serves as a classic enchantment designed to bolster the power and toughness of flying units, fitting the thematic motif of sailing and exploration that defines the Ixalan storyline.
The card features artwork by the illustrator Igor Kieryluk. His design emphasizes the adventurous, seafaring aesthetic of the set, utilizing vibrant colors to evoke a sense of momentum and wind. Upon its release, it was well-received by players for its efficiency in limited formats and its clear, utility-focused design, becoming a staple tool for blue-aligned decks that prioritize airborne strategies.
