Where it came from
Favorable Winds was originally printed in the Ixalan expansion in 2017, designed as an uncommon enchantment to support tribal themes centered on flying creatures. Within the context of the Starter Commander Decks, which were released to provide accessible entry points for new players, this card serves as a thematic inclusion for decks relying on evasion and aerial superiority.
The card features artwork by Lake Hurwitz, who focused on the ethereal and adventurous spirit of the Ixalan setting. The design intent was to provide a low-cost, repeatable buff for flying units, a mechanic that has made it a staple in budget-friendly blue decks. It is widely regarded by players as an efficient utility card that rewards deck construction focused on creature subtypes like Spirits or Birds.
