Where it came from
The Feasting Troll King was introduced in the 2019 Magic: The Gathering expansion Throne of Eldraine, a set heavily inspired by European folklore and Arthurian legend. This specific version, identified as the promo printing with collector number 152s, features unique borderless alternate art by artist Svetlin Velinov. It was distributed through localized promotional channels, often appearing as a prize or participation reward in Wizards of the Coast organized play events during the set's release cycle.
The design of the card emphasizes the creature's lore as an insatiable, regenerative beast of the Eldraine wilderness. Velinov’s illustration leans into the whimsical yet grotesque aesthetic of the set, utilizing a lush, painterly style to depict the Troll King amidst a chaotic banquet. The card was well-received by players for its powerful graveyard-recursion mechanics, which allowed it to serve as a recurring threat in competitive play while standing out visually due to the premium borderless treatment.
