Where it came from
The Feasting Troll King was introduced as part of the Throne of Eldraine expansion in 2019, drawing heavy inspiration from European folklore and fairy tales. Designed by Wizards of the Coast as a mythic rare creature, the card was intended to capture the gluttonous, regenerating nature of a classic troll while fitting into the set's graveyard-focused mechanics. The promotional version, bearing the collector number 152p, features unique alternate art that emphasizes the character's imposing, regal presence within the set's narrative of high fantasy and chivalric adventure.
The illustration for this iteration was created by Jesper Ejsing, a prolific fantasy artist known for his dynamic and textured style. Ejsing sought to convey the troll's immense scale and voracious appetite, utilizing a color palette that reflects the earthy, damp environments of Eldraine. Upon its release, the card was well-received by players for its flavor-rich design and its utility in competitive formats, where its ability to return from the graveyard provided a resilient and thematic challenge for opponents.
