Field of the Dead

Field of the Dead was released in 2019 as part of the Core Set 2020 expansion for Magic: The Gathering. Designed as a rare land card, its primary mechanical purpose was to reward players for diversifying their deck's land base by creating an army of 2/2 Zombie tokens whenever a land entered the battlefield, provided the player controlled seven or more lands with different names.

The atmospheric illustration was created by artist Titus Lunter, who captured a haunting, desolate landscape that perfectly fit the card's theme of an undead horde rising from the earth. While the design was initially seen as a niche build-around card, its power level eventually proved high enough to reshape competitive tournament play, leading to its eventual restriction or ban in several formats due to its dominance in late-game strategies.
