Where it came from
Bag of Holding was introduced in the Core Set 2020 for the Magic: The Gathering trading card game. Its design serves as a nostalgic homage to the iconic Dungeons & Dragons magic item of the same name, reflecting the set's broader initiative to integrate classic tabletop role-playing themes into the game's artifact card pool. The card was developed to provide players with a repeatable looting mechanic, emphasizing the flavor of storing and retrieving items from a mystical container.
The artwork for this particular printing was created by artist Livia Prima, who utilized a clean, digital aesthetic to highlight the shimmering, supernatural properties of the bag. Upon its release, the card was received as a functional, mid-tier utility piece for Commander and casual formats, praised primarily for its thematic resonance and its ability to provide long-term card selection without being overpowered.
