Fish

The Doctor Who Tokens were released by the BBC in the mid-1970s as a promotional tie-in intended to capitalize on the show's growing popularity during the Tom Baker era. These collectibles were designed to serve as both game pieces and visual keepsakes, often distributed through cereal boxes or specialized confectionery promotional campaigns. The set sought to catalog the myriad creatures and companions encountered by the Doctor, providing a bite-sized encyclopedic entry for younger fans.

The artwork for the Fish token, labeled as number 42, reflects the minimalist graphic style prevalent in British licensed ephemera of the decade. The design utilizes bold, flat colors and simplified linework to represent the aquatic lifeforms featured in various serials. While these tokens were initially dismissed as ephemeral marketing material, they have since been reevaluated by archivists as a charming snapshot of mid-century merchandise design, capturing the camp aesthetic of the Fourth Doctor's tenure.
