Provenance

Where it came from

Flight, a white-bordered reprint of the original Alpha and Beta set card, was released in 1993 as part of the International Collectors' Edition. This set was produced by Wizards of the Coast primarily for the European market, designed as a non-tournament-legal showcase of the early Magic: The Gathering card pool. Unlike standard game cards, these feature gold-backed designs and square corners, intended to provide collectors with access to rare and iconic artwork from the game's inception.

The card features the distinct, ethereal artwork of Dameon Willich, one of the original illustrators for the game. His approach focused on high-fantasy motifs that established the visual identity of early Magic. While Flight was a common utility card used to grant evasion to creatures, the Collectors' Edition version remains a point of interest for its historical status as an early promotional effort to celebrate the game's growing global audience.
