Provenance

Where it came from

Flooded Strand was originally released in the 2002 Onslaught set, designed by Wizards of the Coast to support multi-colored deck construction through a cycle of fetch lands. These lands became a cornerstone of competitive play due to their efficiency in manipulating the deck and fixing mana bases. When the card was reprinted in the 2014 Khans of Tarkir expansion, it featured new artwork by artist Sam Burley, who aimed to evoke the rugged and war-torn atmosphere of the Tarkir plane.

The reprint was highly anticipated by the Magic: The Gathering community, as it provided much-needed accessibility to a fundamental tournament card. Sam Burley’s illustration, which emphasizes the desolate, icy shores of the region, was received favorably for its cinematic scope and alignment with the set's block theme. This version of the card solidified its status as an essential utility piece for players across Eternal formats.
