Font of Fortunes

Font of Fortunes was released in 2014 as part of the Journey into Nyx set, the final expansion in the Theros block for Magic: The Gathering. Designed by Wizards of the Coast, this enchantment was created to capture the thematic essence of the block, which draws heavily from Greek mythology and the influence of the gods on the mortal plane. The card mechanic—allowing players to sacrifice the enchantment to draw cards—reflects the 'enchantment subtheme' that defined the block, rewarding players for interacting with enchantments as tangible, fleeting manifestations of divine favor.

The artwork, illustrated by Aleksi Briclot, emphasizes the ethereal and shimmering nature of Nyx, the starry night sky of the Theros underworld. Briclot utilized a style that balances the static nature of an enchantment with the fluidity of water and magic, grounding the card in the set’s distinct visual identity. Upon release, the card was received as a functional utility piece in Limited formats, valued for its ability to provide card advantage in a color, blue, that deeply explores the philosophical and mystical nature of the Theros setting.
