Where it came from
Polymorphous Rush was released in 2014 as part of the Journey into Nyx expansion, the third and final set in the Theros block for the Magic: The Gathering trading card game. The set was designed to capture the flavor of Greek mythology, with a specific focus on the pantheon of gods and the enchantment-heavy nature of the plane. This card specifically utilizes the 'strive' mechanic, a feature introduced in this set that allows players to pay additional costs to target multiple creatures, reflecting the transformative and often chaotic nature of the divine influence found within the Nyx realm.
The card was illustrated by David Palumbo, a noted fantasy artist known for his dramatic lighting and atmospheric style. His depiction of Polymorphous Rush emphasizes the fluidity of form and the magical essence inherent in the card's effect, fitting well within the aesthetic guidelines of the Theros world. Upon its release, the card was viewed as a niche utility spell within the limited and casual play environments, appreciated primarily for its tactical versatility rather than being a cornerstone of competitive tournament play.
