Where it came from
Font of Magic was released as a promotional card for the Magic: The Gathering set Battle for Baldur's Gate, which launched in 2022. Designed as a crossover between the collectible card game and the iconic Dungeons & Dragons tabletop roleplaying setting, this specific variant was distributed as a participation reward at local game stores during the set's release events.
The card features artwork by the illustrator Volkan Baga, whose work is characterized by a high-fantasy aesthetic that aligns with the visual identity of the Forgotten Realms. Within the game, the design reflects the source material's mechanics, translating the wizard class's signature ability to manipulate spell slots into a tactical resource-management card. It was well-received by players for its thematic fidelity to the source material.
