Where it came from
Font of Mythos was released in February 2009 as part of the Conflux expansion for Magic: The Gathering. As a rare artifact, it was designed to facilitate a symmetrical card-drawing engine, allowing every player to draw two additional cards during their draw step. This design choice served to accelerate the game's pace and resource availability, fitting the high-fantasy themes of the Alara block, where the shards of a shattered world were beginning to merge.
The card features artwork by Howard Lyon, whose contribution emphasizes the ethereal and mystical nature of the artifact. Lyon's illustration captures the font as a glowing, central point of power, reflecting the theme of magical abundance central to the Conflux set. Upon its release, the card was received primarily as a niche engine for specialized deck archetypes, such as 'group hug' or control decks, where players aim to manipulate the game's flow by providing resources to all participants.
