Card face

What it does

Target creature gets +2/+2 until end of turn. If you control four or more creatures, that creature gets +4/+4 until end of turn instead.

The Cabaretti cultivate an image of harmless hedonism, happy for the other families to underestimate their formidable firepower.

Provenance

Where it came from

For the Family was released in 2022 as part of the Streets of New Capenna set for Magic: The Gathering. The card represents the thematic core of the Obscura, a faction within the Art Deco-inspired metropolis of New Capenna. Mechanically and narratively, it emphasizes the importance of community and cooperation, reflecting the set's central focus on the interconnected relationships between the city's five crime families.

The card’s illustration was crafted by artist Lie Setiawan, who utilized the set’s distinct 1920s noir aesthetic to depict a moment of collaborative effort among the Obscura. Upon its release, the card was noted for its utility in Commander formats, where its ability to scale based on the size of one’s battlefield resonated with players who favored strategies centered on creature-based synergy and board presence.
