Foundry Inspector

Foundry Inspector was originally printed in the Kaladesh set in 2016 and reappeared in the 2020 Commander Legends expansion, featuring artwork by Aaron Miller. The card depicts a mechanical construct typical of the Aether-rich, artifact-focused civilization of Kaladesh, an invention-centered plane heavily inspired by steampunk aesthetics and Indian cultural motifs. Its design intent is to serve as a cost-reduction engine for artifact-heavy decks, providing a strategic advantage by lowering the casting cost of all other artifacts on the battlefield.

Upon its release, the card quickly became a staple in Commander format decks that rely on synergy between artifacts and utility creatures. Players and critics lauded the design for its clean, elegant utility, which allows for explosive turns when paired with other cost-reduction effects. Aaron Miller’s illustration captures the functional, industrial nature of the construct, grounding it within the broader visual identity of the Kaladesh setting while ensuring it remains a recognizable and essential piece of cardboard for tournament and casual play alike.
