Fractured Identity

Fractured Identity was introduced as a mythic rare sorcery in the 2017 Magic: The Gathering expansion, Unstable. This set, designed by Mark Rosewater and his team, was the third in a series of silver-bordered 'un-sets' specifically created for casual draft play, focusing on humorous mechanics, meta-jokes, and unconventional card designs that broke the standard rules of the game.

The artwork was commissioned from illustrator Yohann Schepacz, who chose a surreal, polished aesthetic to represent the card's theme of duplication and detachment. By exiling a permanent and creating token copies of it for every opponent, the card embodies the chaotic, board-altering nature of multiplayer game formats. Since its release, it has transitioned from a niche casual card into a highly sought-after staple in competitive Commander play due to its powerful interaction and ability to turn an opponent's most threatening card into a collective liability.
