Where it came from
Gauntlets of Light was released in 2019 as part of the Magic: The Gathering Core Set 2020. This card was designed for the white color identity, embodying the themes of radiance and clerical reinforcement common to that cycle. It functions as an enchantment that grants a creature the ability to produce mana while also providing a buff to its power and toughness, serving as a versatile tool for synergy-based decks that rely on untapping mechanics.
The artwork for this card was created by illustrator Johannes Voss, who utilized a bright, ethereal aesthetic to convey the item's magical properties. Voss focused on a sense of divine illumination, emphasizing glowing linework and sharp contrasts to make the gauntlets feel like significant artifacts of power. Upon its release, the card was viewed as a niche but effective utility piece within the set's limited environment and casual constructed formats, appreciated by players who focus on enchantment-heavy strategies.
