Where it came from
Gerrard's Hourglass Pendant was introduced in the 2022 Dominaria United Commander set, designed to commemorate the rich lore of Magic: The Gathering's long-running Weatherlight Saga. The artifact serves as a thematic nod to Gerrard Capashen, a central protagonist of the storyline, and represents the weight of history and the passage of time inherent to the narrative of the Dominaria plane.
The card was illustrated by Donato Giancola, a renowned artist in the fantasy field known for his painterly, classic aesthetic. Giancola’s design focuses on the visual gravitas of the pendant, grounding the magical object within the game’s broader history. Upon its release, the card was well-received by players for its utility in Commander format decks, functioning as an effective tool for resetting board states and interacting with turn structures.
