Getaway Car

Getaway Car was released as part of the Streets of New Capenna expansion for Magic: The Gathering, specifically featuring as a rare artifact vehicle. The set draws heavy inspiration from 1920s Art Deco aesthetics and organized crime narratives, focusing on a sprawling metropolis controlled by five distinct demonic families. This card was designed to capture the high-stakes, cinematic energy of a Prohibition-era mob escape, utilizing a unique rules interaction where the vehicle returns to its owner's hand after combat to emphasize its role as a temporary escape vessel.

The illustration was crafted by artist Lie Setiawan, who utilized a sleek, stylized aesthetic that highlights the vehicle's prominent hood ornament and aerodynamic, retro-futuristic chassis. By leaning into the opulent, gold-trimmed design language of New Capenna, the art team aimed to contrast the gritty nature of an underworld getaway with the high-society luxury of the city's ruling elite. Upon release, the card was noted by players for its utility in strategic maneuvering and its thematic alignment with the set's broader noir-inspired mechanics.
