Ghost Lantern // Bind Spirit

Ghost Lantern was released in 2022 as part of the Commander Legends: Battle for Baldur's Gate expansion, a set specifically designed for the multiplayer Commander format. The card draws its thematic inspiration from the Dungeons & Dragons Forgotten Realms setting, representing the intersection of tabletop roleplaying mechanics and the strategic depth of Magic: The Gathering. As an artifact with the ability to exile a creature card and later play it from exile, it serves as a utility tool for recursion-focused decks.

The card’s visual design, rendered by illustrator Wisnu Tan, captures the ethereal and eerie aesthetic of a magical containment vessel. Tan’s work on this piece focuses on the contrast between the flickering, spectral light of the lantern and the shadowy environment, aligning with the dark, gothic-fantasy undertones common to the Baldur's Gate setting. Upon its release, the card was received as a functional, low-cost equipment piece that provides both a utility effect and minor stat buffs, securing its place as a reliable inclusion for players prioritizing graveyard interaction.
