Where it came from
Gift of Estates was originally printed as a rare card in the Saviors of Kamigawa expansion in 2005, designed to provide white mana ramp in multiplayer formats. The version featured here is part of the Strixhaven Mystical Archive, a special bonus set released in 2021 that celebrates iconic instant and sorcery spells from across the history of Magic: The Gathering.
The art for this specific printing was created by Johannes Voss, who utilized the distinctive, ornate aesthetic established for the Strixhaven Archive. The design aims to evoke the academic and prestigious atmosphere of the Strixhaven University of Magic, reimagining the card through the lens of archival scrolls and scholarly iconography. Upon its release, this card was widely praised for its aesthetic cohesiveness and its utility in the popular Commander format.
