What it does

If a creature an opponent controls would die, exile it instead.

At the beginning of your upkeep, put all creature cards exiled with Gisa onto the battlefield under your control. They gain decayed. (A creature with decayed can't block. When it attacks, sacrifice it at end of combat.)

Provenance

Where it came from

Gisa, Glorious Resurrector was released in 2021 as part of the Innistrad: Midnight Hunt expansion for Magic: The Gathering. The card depicts Gisa Cecani, a prominent necromancer from the gothic horror-themed plane of Innistrad. The character was designed to emphasize her flavorful connection to raising the dead, functioning mechanically as a engine for creature theft by exiling opponent's fallen creatures and returning them to the battlefield under the controller's command.

The card illustration was created by artist Sam Burley, who captured the character's erratic and morbid aesthetic. The design reflects the top-down nature of the set, which focused heavily on graveyard synergies and the harvest-themed transformation of the plane. It was received well by players who enjoy Commander-format strategies, as it offers a distinct, high-impact presence on the board that rewards aggressive play in multiplayer settings.
