Where it came from
Gods Willing was originally introduced to the Magic: The Gathering card game during the Magic Origins set in 2015. It was designed as a common white instant that provides a creature with protection from a chosen color until the end of the turn, while also allowing the player to scry 1. The card serves as a versatile defensive tool, allowing players to save key creatures from targeted removal or to bypass blockers for a decisive attack.
The version from the Ultimate Masters set, released in 2018, features updated artwork by Johannes Voss. This reprint maintains the card's mechanical utility while updating its visual presentation to fit the aesthetic of the premium masters-series release. Ultimate Masters was curated to provide a high-power drafting experience, and the inclusion of Gods Willing offered players a reliable and efficient utility spell that remained a staple of the format's aggressive white decks.
