Where it came from
Gods Willing was originally introduced in the Magic: The Gathering expansion Magic Origins in 2015. The version found in the Masters 25 set, released in 2018, serves as a commemorative reprint designed to celebrate the history of the game. The card features artwork by Magali Villeneuve, who captures the ethereal and protective nature of the spell through a soft, radiant aesthetic that emphasizes the divine intervention central to its function.
The card is a staple of white-aligned strategy, functioning as a flexible utility spell that provides temporary protection from specific colors. By allowing players to grant a creature protection and perform a minor library manipulation through its scry mechanic, it offers a refined balance of defensive capability and strategic foresight. Within the Masters 25 collection, its inclusion honors the legacy of mechanics that prioritize player agency and tactical combat interaction.
