What it does
Destroy target creature or planeswalker. Create a Treasure token. (It's an artifact with "tap, Sacrifice this token: Add one mana of any color.")
Freed from the need to pay tribute to the dragon, the villages gladly paid the dragon-slayers instead.

Where it came from
Grim Bounty was originally released in the 2021 expansion Adventures in the Forgotten Realms, a set designed to integrate the flavor and mechanics of Dungeons & Dragons into the Magic: The Gathering ecosystem. The card functions as a thematic representation of a targeted assassination or tactical elimination, capturing the high-stakes, mission-driven nature of tabletop role-playing quest narratives.
The artwork, illustrated by Anna Steinbauer, leans into the gritty, atmospheric aesthetic typical of the set's portrayal of the Dungeons & Dragons multiverse. Its inclusion in 'The List'—a curated selection of cards from throughout Magic's history that can be found in set boosters—serves to keep the card in active circulation, allowing players to encounter thematic reprints alongside new material.
