Where it came from
Guide of Souls was released in 2024 as part of the Modern Horizons 3 expansion for Magic: The Gathering. The card was designed as a proactive threat for white-aligned creature decks, drawing thematic inspiration from the series' history of soul-warden style effects that trigger whenever a creature enters the battlefield. It emerged from a set specifically engineered for the Modern competitive format, intended to provide synergistic tools for established archetypes while introducing high-complexity gameplay.
The artwork for this specific promo version was created by artist Livia Prima, who has contributed numerous illustrations to the game. Her design utilizes a bright, ethereal aesthetic intended to convey a sense of divine protection and celestial energy. Within the community, the card was received as a significant addition to token and life-gain strategies, noted for its ability to generate resource advantage over the course of a match.
