Guiding Bolt

Guiding Bolt was introduced as part of the 2022 expansion Commander Legends: Battle for Baldur's Gate, a Magic: The Gathering set designed to bridge the gap between traditional card game mechanics and the narrative themes of the Dungeons & Dragons Forgotten Realms setting. The card itself represents a signature spell from the tabletop role-playing game, intended to provide white-aligned decks with a versatile tool for both removal and tactical advantage in multiplayer Commander games.

The card's design aims to evoke the feeling of channeling celestial energy to strike an enemy, a task achieved through the work of illustrator Wisnu Tan. Tan's depiction emphasizes the ethereal, radiant nature of the spell, capturing a sense of sudden impact and divine intervention. Upon release, it was well-received by players for its thematic accuracy and utility in limited and casual formats, successfully translating a classic D&D mechanic into the specific, high-interaction environment of the Commander format.
