Halvar, God of Battle // Halvar, God of Battle

The Halvar, God of Battle art card was released in 2021 as part of the Kaldheim Art Series, a collection of cards produced by Wizards of the Coast for their Magic: The Gathering trading card game. These cards were distributed exclusively within Set Boosters to showcase the intricate illustrations featured in the Kaldheim expansion, which drew heavy aesthetic inspiration from Norse mythology and the cold, rugged landscapes of the Viking Age.

The illustration for this card was created by artist Johannes Voss, who sought to capture the formidable presence of Halvar as a divine warrior. The design emphasizes a sense of martial discipline and celestial authority, rendered in the distinctive, high-fantasy style that characterizes the modern Magic: The Gathering visual identity. Upon its release, the series was well-received by collectors for its focus on the artistry behind the game, providing a clean, textless presentation that highlights the fine details of the character's armor and the swirling, atmospheric backdrop of the plane of Kaldheim.
