Where it came from
Harbin, Vanguard Aviator was released in 2022 as part of The Brothers' War, a Magic: The Gathering expansion set that revisited the iconic conflict between Urza and Mishra. This card represents the aerial forces of the Argivian brotherhood, grounding the character within the established lore of the artificer-dominated war on the continent of Terisiare.
The card was illustrated by Chris Rahn, who captured Harbin in a dynamic, heroic stance consistent with the set's aesthetic of retro-futuristic fantasy warfare. Design-wise, Harbin functions as a creature lord that rewards players for deploying an army of flyers, a mechanical choice that emphasizes the tactical role of aviation in the brutal, artifact-heavy combat depicted throughout the expansion.
