Where it came from
Harold and Bob, First Numens is a card from the Magic: The Gathering Fallout set, released in 2024 as part of the Universes Beyond line. The card features two of the most enduring figures from the Fallout franchise, Harold the mutant and his parasitic companion, Bob the tree. It was created to integrate the lore of the post-apocalyptic role-playing series into the mechanics of the game, highlighting their long-standing symbiotic relationship that spans decades of in-game history.
The illustration was crafted to capture the withered, iconic aesthetic of Harold, whose body has been slowly overtaken by the growth of Bob. The design team aimed to reflect the character's tragic yet whimsical history, emphasizing the organic fusion that defines them. Upon its release, the card was received positively by fans of both the Fallout series and Magic: The Gathering for its thematic accuracy and its ability to represent the peculiar narrative arc of the characters within a tabletop format.
