Havenwood Battleground

Havenwood Battleground first appeared in the Fallen Empires expansion set in 1994, designed as part of a cycle of storage lands that allowed players to accumulate resource counters. It was later reprinted in the Fifth Edition core set in 1997, which served to bring cards from the early, experimental years of Magic: The Gathering into a unified, updated rules framework for a wider audience.

The card features artwork by Anson Maddocks, who was one of the original illustrators for the game. His style, characterized by a distinct, textured approach to fantasy landscapes, helped define the visual identity of early Magic. The card was designed to facilitate mana acceleration, though it is often remembered more for its role in the game's expansive lore regarding the history of the Sarpadian continent than for its competitive tournament dominance.
