Havenwood Battleground

Havenwood Battleground was released in 1994 as part of the Fallen Empires expansion for Magic: The Gathering. This set was unique for its heavy emphasis on tribal themes and dark, atmospheric storytelling, depicting a dying world plagued by conflict. As part of a cycle of land cards that could produce mana or provide secondary utility, Havenwood Battleground was designed to support the green-aligned faction, specifically the elves of the Havenwood forest, reflecting their desperate defense against encroaching threats.

The card’s visual identity was crafted by artist Anson Maddocks, who utilized a distinct, grounded style that characterized much of the game’s early aesthetic.
