Where it came from
Hazoret's Undying Fury was released in 2017 as part of the Hour of Devastation expansion for Magic: The Gathering. As a rare sorcery card, it represents the narrative climax of the Amonkhet block, depicting the deity Hazoret unleashing her power in defense of her city against the encroaching forces of the antagonist Nicol Bolas. The card was designed to mechanically reflect the chaotic, high-stakes nature of the battle through a cascading effect that reveals and casts cards from the top of the player's library.
The promotional version, designated with the collector number 96s, features distinct foil treatment and set iconography identifying it as a release specific to the Hour of Devastation event cycle. The artwork for the card was created by Aleksi Briclot, a prolific fantasy illustrator known for his dramatic, high-contrast style. His design for this piece focuses on the visceral energy of the deity, emphasizing the thematic intensity of the Amonkhet storyline, and the card was generally well-received by players for both its narrative impact and its aggressive utility in red-aligned gameplay strategies.
