Where it came from
Hazoret's Undying Fury was released in 2017 as part of the Hour of Devastation expansion for Magic: The Gathering, set on the plane of Amonkhet. The card depicts the god Hazoret during the cataclysmic events orchestrated by the dragon Nicol Bolas, who orchestrated the betrayal of the plane's inhabitants. Mechanically, the card serves as a high-cost sorcery intended to represent the god's unrestrained wrath, allowing players to cast the top cards of their library for free.
The artwork for the card was provided by Chase Stone, an illustrator known for his dynamic, painterly style within the fantasy genre. The design focuses on the visual spectacle of the god's power, aiming to capture a sense of scale and destructive intensity. Upon its release, the card was widely analyzed by the competitive community for its unique resource-dump mechanic, finding a niche in formats where players seek to manipulate library order or generate significant mana advantages.
