Heroes

The Marvel Super Heroes Jumpstart set was released in 1996 by Fleer/SkyBox as an introductory trading card game designed to entice younger players into the hobby. The 'Heroes' card, numbered 01, serves as the cornerstone of this set, intended to showcase the core roster of Marvel's flagship characters including Spider-Man, Captain America, and the X-Men. It functioned as an entry point for the game's mechanics, emphasizing accessible, fast-paced play over the complex rulesets found in other contemporary collectible card games.

The visual design features a collage aesthetic characteristic of mid-nineties Marvel marketing, prioritizing high-impact action poses and bold color palettes to appeal to comic book enthusiasts of the era. The art direction was supervised by the editorial team at Fleer to maintain consistency with the established Marvel style guides of the mid-1990s. While the Jumpstart game itself had a brief market lifespan, the cards remain a notable example of the era's attempt to bridge the gap between traditional trading card collecting and the growing market for competitive card games.
