Provenance

Where it came from

Hijack was released in 2016 as part of the Kaladesh set for the Magic: The Gathering trading card game. The set was designed around an art-deco inspired, artifact-heavy plane characterized by ingenuity and invention. This particular card represents a red-aligned spell, capturing the chaotic, impulsive nature of the color within the game's mechanics by allowing a player to temporarily seize control of an opponent's creature.

The card features artwork by illustrator Johannes Voss. His design emphasizes the vibrant, high-energy aesthetic of Kaladesh, depicting a character manipulating the aether-based machinery central to the world's lore. Upon release, Hijack was recognized as a staple 'threat' card in the Limited format, praised by players for its ability to swing the momentum of a game by turning an opponent's best asset against them.
