Human

The Human token card, assigned collector number 1 in the Dark Ascension expansion, was released by Wizards of the Coast in February 2012. As a token card, it represents a creature permanently summoned onto the battlefield by various spells and abilities within the Magic: The Gathering card game, rather than being part of a player's starting deck. Its introduction provided physical representation for the 'human' creature type, which became a significant thematic focus for the set as it explored the gothic horror narrative of the Innistrad block.

The artwork for this token reflects the set's somber, desperate tone, depicting a survivor amidst the bleak landscapes of the plane of Innistrad. The design language emphasizes the struggle of common humanity against the supernatural threats that define the block's lore. Like many tokens of the era, it was intended as a functional utility piece for players, with its aesthetic style aligning with the work of the broader creative team tasked with establishing the visual identity of the Innistrad setting.
