Provenance

Where it came from

The Hurloon Minotaur was originally released in the 1994 Summer Magic set, an infamous production run intended to correct printing errors found in the Revised Edition of Magic: The Gathering. Due to a series of logistical failures and a warehouse fire, the set was never officially released to the public, though a small number of copies were inadvertently sold through standard distribution channels. This makes the set, often referred to as 'Edgar,' one of the most mysterious and elusive chapters in the game's history.

The card features the iconic illustration by Anson Maddocks, who provided the art for the original Alpha version of the card. His depiction of the aggressive, axe-wielding minotaur established the visual identity for the creature type in the early game. In the Summer Magic version, the card retains its classic aesthetic but is distinguished by a unique, vibrant color correction that sets it apart from the more muted tones of the Revised printings, making it a highly prized rarity among serious collectors.
