Where it came from
Incarnation Technique was released in 2021 as part of the Prismari Performance deck for the Commander 2021 set, a collection themed around the Strixhaven: School of Mages university setting. The card represents the magical philosophies of the Prismari college, which emphasizes the intersection of raw elemental power and expressive artistic performance. Its mechanics, focusing on graveyard recursion and the sacrifice of creatures, reflect the high-stakes creative process inherent to the college's lore.
The card features illustration by Wisuhatti Pongchaloen, who captured the fluid, volatile nature of magical manifestation. The design aimed to balance the aesthetic of performance art with the functional demand for a powerful, board-swinging spell in the multiplayer Commander format. Upon release, it was generally well-received by players for its ability to generate significant value, quickly becoming a staple in decks that utilize the graveyard as a primary resource.
