Where it came from
Industrial Advancement was released as part of the Streets of New Capenna Commander set in 2022. The card was designed to support the set's central themes of organized crime, urban art deco aesthetics, and the cycle of sacrifice prevalent among the Grixis-aligned Cabaretti and Obscura factions. It serves as a mechanical representation of the set's industrial transformation, allowing players to trade existing board presence for potentially more powerful assets.
The artwork, illustrated by Wisnu Tan, captures the transition from gritty, soot-covered labor to the polished, gilded luxury of New Capenna. The aesthetic choices lean heavily into the 1920s-inspired architecture that defines the plane. Upon its release, the card was noted by players for its synergy with token-heavy strategies and its ability to act as a value engine in commander-format decks, solidifying its place as a staple for deck-builders looking to upgrade their battlefield states.
