Infantry Veteran

Infantry Veteran was released as part of the Magic 2011 (M11) core set in July 2010. This set marked a significant transition for Magic: The Gathering, as it was the first core set to include new cards alongside reprints, establishing a new design philosophy that prioritized flavor and strategic depth even in foundational sets. The card was designed to function as a low-cost utility creature, providing the White color identity with a defensive tool capable of bolstering other creatures in combat.

The card features artwork by illustrator Dan Dos Santos, who utilized a cinematic style to convey the grit of a seasoned soldier. The design intent was to capture the essence of a battle-hardened infantryman whose experience provides a tactical advantage to his allies. Upon its release, it was well-received by the player base as a reliable, efficient inclusion for Limited formats, where its ability to grant a temporary power boost for a minimal investment proved useful for managing combat math.
