Where it came from
Inga and Esika were released in the 2023 Magic: The Gathering set March of the Machine. The card represents a pivotal moment in the game's lore, depicting the leaders of the village of Koskun as they defend their home plane of Kaldheim during the Phyrexian invasion of the Multiverse. Mechanically, the card serves as a centerpiece for tribal and legendary-creature-focused decks, reflecting the duo's role as protectors who draw upon their deep connection to the World Tree.
The artwork was created by illustrator Anna Steinbauer, who is known for her ethereal and detailed contributions to the game. Steinbauer focused on capturing the synergy between the two figures, emphasizing their cooperative magic as they mobilize their followers. Upon release, the card was well-received by players for its efficient mana generation and its thematic resonance, solidifying its place as a staple among fans of the game's cooperative gameplay styles.
