What it does
3 generic mana white mana: Put a +1/+1 counter on another target attacking creature you control. If that creature is a Cat, it gains first strike until end of turn. (It deals combat damage before creatures without first strike.)
Leonin claws were already deadly weapons of natural evolution before he improved upon them.

Where it came from
Ingenious Leonin was released in the Foundations set, a collection specifically designed to serve as a bedrock for the Magic: The Gathering ecosystem. By incorporating iconic mechanics and themes from the game's long history, the set aims to provide both new and returning players with evergreen staples that anchor their card pools, with this specific creature reflecting the long-standing tradition of anthropomorphic cat-warriors that have populated the game's White mana alignment since its inception.
The card’s design emphasizes the strategic versatility often associated with the Leonin, a race of feline humanoids hailing from planes such as Mirrodin and Theros. As a mechanical entry, the card is crafted to reward players for building synergistic decks, fitting into the deliberate, structured design philosophy that Wizards of the Coast employed for the Foundations set to ensure a balanced and accessible gameplay experience for the current era of the hobby.
